The Sardinian Ministry of Education wanted to foster greater cooperation between its schools and aid communication between students, teachers and parents and improve access to high quality learning resources in remote and rural areas. The ministry also wanted to implement a stable technology platform for the future growth. Sardinian implemented customised e-learning solution based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft BizTalk Server 2002, and the Microsoft .NET Framework. By creating electronic links between 550 schools, the new infrastructure enables 15,000 teachers to share resources and experiences.
