Control of End-to-End Delay Tails in a Multiclass Network: LWDF Discipline Optimality

Using large deviations techniques, this paper proves that, in a queueing network of arbitrary topology, the LWDF is an optimal discipline to satisfy asymptotic ("tail") constraints on the end-to-end delay distributions. In the center of the analysis is the proof of a remarkable critical node property: there exists a most likely path to build large maximal weighted delay in the network, which is a most likely path to do so in one of the nodes in isolation.
