This paper gives an outline of the proposed changes to the Physical Layer (PHY) for WirelessHUMAN Broadband Fixed Wireless Access systems in un-licensed frequency bands in sub-10GHz. This paper addresses the criteria listed in the Call for Proposals document IEEE 802.16.4-00/01. It discusses functions that are needed in addition to what is available in the IEEE802.11a PHY to support a TDD/TDMA mode of operation in Metropolitan Area Networks.
