Graeme MacKenzie has over thirty hectares of kiwifruit plantings, spread across several blocks of land. Harvest installed solar-powered temperature sensors all over Graeme's land, and connected them to Vodafone's GPRS network. The sensors collect and send essential weather data every few minutes, so Graeme can monitor what's happening, right round the clock. If temperatures plummet, Graeme is automatically alerted by a TXT message sent to his Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone. He then uses his laptop to immediately check the actual temperature readings - via a web site.
