Two truths exist about the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002: It isn't going away, and its effects will impact both for-profit and non-profit organizations. While Sarbanes-Oxley compliance has resonated most loudly in the boardrooms and CEO offices of corporate America, the non-profit arena is feeling the vibrations: particularly institutions of higher learning. Although the Act currently does not apply to colleges and universities, their administrators address issues similar to those faced by governing board members and trustees in their dealings with for-profit businesses.
