United Utilities Metering (United Utilities) is staking its success on a strong IT solution. Based in Manchester, United Utilities provides metering and billing services for 2.5 million gas, electric and water consumers in northern England. The challenge was to improve field-force productivity to enhance competitive edge under deregulation. The solution was a mobile field-force automation solution based on pervasive messaging technologies. The benefits were improvements in productivity, customer service, information accuracy, ability to accommodate 300% increase in customer base with same solution.
