Telenor Mobile, Norway's largest mobile operator with more than 2.3 million subscribers, selected Birdstep's Wireless Access Service Platform for their deployment of secure and scalable public WLAN "hot-spots" throughout Norway. As an effective platform for data services, WLAN will stimulate GPRS usage and hence contribute to additional revenues on this platform. Such traffic contribution will result from users' increasing familiarity with the operator's data services, in addition to increased traffic on GSM/GPRS through maintaining sessions while roaming outside WLAN and into GSM/GPRS and other coverage types.
