One of the largest financial services groups in the United Kingdom, Barclays Plc has been in business for more than 300 years. Barclays identified with the need to demonstrate compliance, and comfortable with the innovative and constructive approach to be undertaken by IBM, agreed to start the Software License Compliance programme in September 2003. Onsite reviews were carried out across the UK, Spain, France, Portugal and the US. Operations audited included Barclaycard, the Woolrich Building Society, Barclays' main banking operations and its private client businesses. Over eight months, IBM software deployment was reviewed across ten mainframes, and approximately 13,000 servers and 80,000 workstations used by employees.
