Flexible volumes, introduced in Data ONTAP 7G, can provide numerous benefits to an organization through their ability to distribute I/O operations across currently deployed disks in a more efficient manner. This allows the organization the flexibility to provision storage on an as needed basis. In addition, flexible volumes allow the organization's IT infrastructure to grow and more effectively control data and utilize the Snapshot technology in a more granular fashion without having to worry about the size of storage needed.
