This paper introduces the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Automation model and shows you how you can use it to build tools to enhance your development experience. Although Visual Studio .NET offers developers many tools and the power to accomplish almost every task, some developers require an additional or finer level of control. For example, they might have a task or series of tasks that they find they are performing regularly and would like to automate. To address this issue, Visual Studio .NET features a rich programming model for extending and automating its IDE (integrated development environment) known as the Automation model.
