Microsoft Exchange Server has played a significant role in many organizations as a messaging and collaboration platform, due in no small part to its capacity to serve as a single repository for e-mail messages, documents, and other resources. Furthermore, with its native web interface, Exchange 2000 Server has established itself as a powerful web development platform with support for messaging, contacts management, calendaring, workflow, and collaboration applications. XML Web services make it easier to extend enterprise applications by acting as a layer between the Exchange server and the client application. This paper defines a realistic scenario for utilizing XML Web services that could relate easily to a real-world business requirement.
