A non-line of sight (NLOS) broadband wireless Internet access system has been successfully installed in one of the largest and most densely populated cities in the world. This case study discusses NextNet's Expedience OFDM-based NLOS system, commercially deployed in Mexico City since October 2002. The current deployment serves an area with a population of four million, including the city's urban core and desirable residential and commercial neighborhoods to the west and south. A total of 64 RF base stations distributed over 17 cell sites covers this area. The OFDM-based Expedience system supports frequency reuse, so both area coverage and system capacity can be expanded using only a small portion of the 2.5-2.692 GHz band spectrum.
