It has been estimated that the amount of data being stored by organisations is doubling each year. This is due in part to the fall in the price of hardware, particularly hard disks, making it easy to add to existing storage infrastructures. However, a legacy of old departmental systems and mergers and acquisitions means that organisations will most likely have a variety of different storage architectures and also hardware and software from different vendors. This has created a need for interoperability between storage components as well as systems. Computer Associates (CA) is addressing these needs with its storage strategy and visions of a company's entire storage infrastructure being managed from a single console.
