No industry is more demanding than aerospace-defense when it concerns the complete integration of software and hardware architectures. Tasked with defending the nascent Information Age economy, the aerospace-defense industry must be capable of waging Information Age warfare, whose key concepts include information superiority and network-centric warfare. This white paper describes a technical approach for improving how one specifies system and system-of-systems architectures using frameworks in general, and the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) in particular. The model-driven approach to architectural frameworks explained here, which is based on UML 2.0, Telelogic TAU Generation2, and Telelogic DOORS, can substantially improve productivity and quality.
