The British Columbia school district encompasses 19 schools. Boardwalk Communications, wanted to replace its expensive public telephone network and overhaul its aging data network, made up of a hodgepodge of platforms and systems. By using its Cisco IP network for intra-district and municipal calls, the district was able to reduce its phone lines from 150 to 25, saving approximately CDN$60,000 per year. Secure virtual private networks (VPNs) extend network access to laptop-equipped home learners and to on-campus disabled students equipped with wireless notebooks.
