The objectives of this paper are to reduce port and cargo security vulnerabilities of the Region's ports. The Inter-American Port Security Training Program is the foundation of more secure Inter-American maritime trade corridors and enhanced security of the maritime transportation systems in the member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS). The Inter-American Port Security Training Program contributes also to other regional approaches to counter seaport crime and terrorism - and it serves the efforts of the OAS Technical Advisory Group on Port Security to develop a broad hemispheric strategy for improving port and cargo security in the Inter-American maritime trade corridors.
