This paper looks at some of the abstractions in a new profile of UML, the RT-Profile, which particularly affects software design for real-time use. Included in the paper are a set of patterns that designers can use to evolve a design model, expressed using these abstractions, into an implementation model suitable for implementation in C++, using a class from an example system to illustrate the evolution.
