Since its introduction a few years ago, the Unified Modeling Language (UML) has captured industrywide attention for its role as a general-purpose language for modeling software systems. Although it does a good job in the early phases of the development process, UML does leave some things to be desired in the systems design and implementation phases because it is lacking in structural and behavioral constructs. This paper proposes a merger between UML and the Specification and Description Language (SDL) that would enhance UML's usefulness as a graphical programming language.
