The surface transportation system is vital to any economy, defense, and quality of life, and it is extremely vulnerable to attack due to its enormity and accessibility. Unless actively managed the transportation system will not be prepared for, or able to effectively respond to or recover from a disaster. The transportation infrastructure will play a key role in all stages of Homeland Security. This presentation shows how Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can provide detailed information about the capability to manage the surface transportation network.
