This paper examines the use of the Unified Modelling Language (UML) in the development of a safety critical programme, in particular concentrating on the aspects of traceability and navigation through the UML models. It is the traceability aspect of UML, which is the main subject of this paper. Based upon a current development programme, the paper tries to show how both the traceability approach and the underlying process make the term 'Use Case driven' a far more tangible concept.
