Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC) is one of the oldest healthcare plans in New England. It wanted to bring the reference site in-house, provide a common access point to the Web transaction systems, integrate the portal with HPHC's Enterprise Security System, simplify system management by providing self-service capabilities for portal users and create new portal-based online services, including customized content and online transactions. Oracle9iAS Portal offered all these features plus the promise of full integration with Oracle E-Business Suite and an open, standards-based architecture. It made sense to go with a portal product they knew could eventually integrate naturally with the Oracle business applications they were running.
