Backup and recovery is one of the most crucial and important jobs for a DBA to protect their business's assets - its data. When data is not available, companies loose credibility, money, and possibly the whole business. Data warehouses are unique in that the data may come from a myriad of resources and it is transformed before finally being inserted into the database; but mostly because it can be very large. Managing the recovery of a large data warehouses can be a daunting task and traditional OLTP backup and recovery strategies may not meet the needs of a data warehouse.
