In October and November 2004, RAE Systems performed two sea trials to prove the feasibility of using sensors to continuously monitor the integrity of inter-modal shipping containers from point of origin to point of destination. This white paper reviews the compelling need for container monitoring, lays out the details of the sea trials, presents the results from the RAEWatch wireless sensor modules that were used to monitor radiation, intrusion, temperature and shock and summarizes possible next steps to deployment.
