The challenge for the school was to implement an affordable secure network. The school had relatively little money for hardware and software. Thin clients seemed to be the solution since these machines work great in that environment but they needed a nice application server to run everything. By using Linux and other open source software, the school is able to utilize older equipment that is useless to other organizations, have the same applications, and use a more stable network.
