Working under the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command (UOPSC), public safety officials for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games required a situation-management and anti-terrorism preparedness system to aid security forces at the Games. In Fall 2001, UOPSC began development of a security/readiness solution based on the RAMSAFE software co-developed by the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Justice, the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratories and Public Safety Systems, LLC (Oak Ridge, Tennessee). RAMSAFE runs on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Internet Information Server 5.0. The benefits were coordination among security agencies, virtual touring and testing and interactive briefing faster and more thorough preparation for action.
