The goal of this paper is to evaluate the memory subsystem performance of the AMD Reference Design Kit (RDK), "Quartet", a four-CPU system based on the AMD Opteron processor. This paper begins by discussing the unique features of the AMD Opteron processor's memory subsystem and the system architecture of the RDK "Quartet". Next, this paper introduces four microbenchmarks used to characterize different aspects of memory subsystem performance. This paper concludes with comments on the AMD RDK system's architecture and its performance on large scientific applications.
