Credit Mutuel launched in Strasbourg is the first European e-purse developed using the Hitachi smart commerce infrastructure and Mondex purse. Credit Mutuel has issued over 100,000 cards and has over 1500 merchants and 100 ATM machines linked to the cashless payment system. The Mondex system was adapted and developed by Hitachi engineers to accommodate Credit Mutuel's specifications. A OBS (One Box Solution for Mondex) is linked to the bank system's host computer, which makes it possible to transfer Mondex value between the bank and clients. The transactions are then recorded on the banking system and customer account.
