This paper measures single-hop delay as experienced by packets in the Sprint IP backbone network. This paper develops a methodology to identify the contributing factors to the single-hop delay that is simple and applicable to any single-hop delay measurements. The paper demonstrates its applicability on OC-3 and OC-12 packet traces.
