As industry standard Intel-based servers from Dell continue to improve in performance and value, customers are migrating their mission critical applications from proprietary Unix based systems. The latest generation of Dell's servers continues the trend of increasing performance and value by utilizing Intel's Xeon processor with EM64T technology and the latest server hardware architecture features. To demonstrate the value and benefits of Dell's latest generation of servers, a Dell PowerEdge 2850 with dual 3.4 GHz Xeon processors was installed with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and an enterprise database manager, and used as a target platform for a migration from a Unix server from Sun Microsystems Inc., a Sun Fire V440 with four 1.28 GHz UltraSPARC IIIi processors.
