The OctetString Virtual Directory Engine (VDE) offers the best of what Relational Database and LDAP technology has to offer. VDE's Database Proxy capability offers LDAP connectivity to almost any JDBC or ODBC compatible databases. Through VDE, the database proxy acts as a normal industry standard LDAPv2/v3 server and converts LDAP-based queries into SQL-style queries for designated RDBMS databases supporting full read/write functionality. The Database Proxy map table structures and schema into a directory trees and schema-making the SQL data source appear to have come from an LDAP directory.
