Dartmouth College's initial challenge for the pilot project was to define a manageable scope in terms of the products, vehicles, stores, and distribution centers to be included. The solutions were bar codes, RFID devices, RFID readers, Global Positioning System (GPS), a Wireless Wide Area Network (WAN) and RFID tags. The benefits were Shrinkage, bookstock accuracy, reduced labor costs, asset management, transport efficiencies and identification of future RFID applications.
