The global supply chain is highly vulnerable to exploitation as a means to commit acts of terrorism. Stakeholders in the Marine Transportation System are working to mitigate this threat. To support this effort, SAIC is developing the Integrated Container Inspection System (ICIS) to quickly scan closed containers to help locate potential weapons and hazardous materials at terminals without impeding traffic. ICIS can provide authorities with ready access to scanning data to help identify high-risk containers quickly and efficiently. SAIC expects that the economic benefits of the system to terminal operators and shippers will encourage its adoption within the industry.
