RFIDs promise a number of benefits to manufacturers and retailers. Unlike barcodes, which must align visually with a reader, an RFID tag automatically announces itself to nearby readers, reducing the need for labor to scan a pallet, case, or item's barcode as it moves through the supply chain. This promises tremendous new visibility into the supply chain and substantial labor savings.
