Most retailers won't get the same attention as the early adopters of RFID technology, but they can get the same or better results. The ultimate winners from RFID implementations will be the retailers who do the best job of developing applications that leverage and complement existing enterprise systems. Bar codes on consumer goods are not going away. RFID will provide value to retailers by extending the benefits of bar code-based systems and enterprise applications to provide new levels of inventory visibility and velocity, particularly at the case, carton and pallet levels.
