The use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), if widely adopted, has the potential to revolutionize the way that products are identified and tracked throughout the supply chain. RFID, and the infrastructure being proposed by the Auto-ID Center, will give companies the ability to instantly uniquely identify not only a product, but have secure access to a product's history for tracking, identification and recall purposes. RFID is defined by a collection of technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify individual items.
