In any new industry the early adopters are the ones who make mistakes, wrestle with trial and error and learn slowly by doing. Just like the Wright Brothers paved the way for aviation success there is someone in every industry who cuts a new path to the ultimate destination. In an industry where key customers (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) have forced everyone to be an early adopter there is a maze of paths being cut across the RFID landscape that lead to dead ends and impassable chasms. The only way to avoid being on one of those roads to nowhere is to learn by other's mistakes. This paper overviews some of the most common mistakes made by the very early adopters of RFID and EPC technology.
