Similar to other spam filtering products, SpamAssassin has the ability to filter out spam email using Bayesian filters. Essentially, a Bayesian filter learns to differentiate between spam and non-spam (referred to as "ham" by SpamAssassin) emails. After it has been trained, it will automatically mark messages similar to those used in training as spam or ham based on what it has learned. This type of filter allows the end user to train it to correctly identify mail they see as spam and prevents ham messages from being incorrectly marked as spam.
