A pioneer in the use of CAD, PSA Peugeot Citroen has slashed lead times for vehicle design. The company realized that to keep abreast of current market conditions it had to be able to scale the system continuously - resulting in as many as 50,000 software upgrades annually. NetApp storage appliances met the two-minute time limit set as the critical benchmark, and they offered both lower initial cost and extreme simplicity, an advantage that contributed further to resource savings. PSA has benefited enormously from using NetApp SnapMirror software, which allows twice-daily backup of more than 50TB of raw data from the CATIA CAD application and design files in asynchronous mode.
