Inmarsat operates a unique global mobile satellite network that provides solutions to the maritime, land and aeronautical sectors. Managing and supporting continued growth was a key challenge for the IT organisation, which recognised the need to consolidate existing storage and ensure its ability to readily scale in the future. Not only was tape backup slow and inefficient, the processes did not provide an effective disaster recovery solution. The company deployed NetApp storage systems at its London headquarters and a remote disaster recovery site as part of an enhanced business continuance plan. Inmarsat utilises the unique NetApp Snapshot technology, a key element of the NetApp Data ONTAP operating system.
