Against this background, Hitachi, Ltd. has developed a digital archive system equipped with digital versatile disc random access memory (DVD-RAM), which is now receiving attention as next-generation large-capacity universal media. This paper discusses the importance of digital archive systems and has introduced the DVD library system using DVD-RAM media.
