Deutsche Bank's Securities Custody System is among the earliest examples of successfully using grid computing for large-scale financial data processing. Base One began developing its grid and cluster computing software under contract to Deutsche Bank, which in 1996 needed to expand the reporting capabilities of its New York City-based Global Custody business. Base One's software enabled the database and application architecture to easily include parallel processing capabilities, where none existed before. These facilities made it easy to use regular Windows computers to schedule and perform repetitive, back-office operations, such as data loads, transformations, exports, database upgrades, and financial reports.
