IBM Utilises WAP to Widen the Net at the Australian Open

IBM and its global partners have been leading the world developing end-to-end wireless solutions for business. The challenge was to take the presentation of the Australian Open to the next level; Tennis Australia approached IBM to deliver real-time results and news from all 20 courts over the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). IBM developed a wireless solution for two core information technology systems at the Australian Open: The IBM Real-Time Scoring System that records all of the live data for the matches and then generates statistics, standings and official results and the Lotus Notes publishing application that manages all of the news for the official Australian Open Web site.
