Mobile Internet access via WAP-enabled mobile phones and PDAs (palmtop computers) offers exciting opportunities for implementing new business models. However the field is technologically very complex, rapidly changing and presents a number of pitfalls to unwary application developers. This paper, which is primarily aimed at the UK and European audience, introduces and explains the technologies, which underpin the mobile Internet, gives some guidance as to where the pitfalls may occur, and describes how they may be mitigated against by taking an architected approach to development.
