The synchronization of the information that uniquely describes a product or service exchanged between trading partners is fundamental to building collaborative commercial relationships among retailers, manufacturers, and other supply chain participants. Global data synchronization (GDS) is important for two related but independent reasons: GDS leads to consolidation and management of master product data, which greatly increases internal supply chain efficiency. GDS is a fundamental building block for realizing the true potential of RFID and EPC technologies. This white paper reviews the key concepts and events in the progress toward GDS.
