The Miami herald began its Internet initiatives in 1994 and has been on the leading edge of newspaper publishing over the Internet. The challenge was to reduce Bandwidth Costs and Connect Users over a Virtual Private Network. Miami herald implemented the Contivity 2000 Extranet Switch from Nortel Networks. The Contivity 2000 Extranet Switch not only reduces or even eliminates bandwidth charges; it has allowed the company to avoid upgrading existing remote access server infrastructure and simplify remote access management.
