Daytona Beach boasts some of America's biggest beaches and mildest weather. The Local Area Network (LAN) consisted of an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) backbone with 10 Mbps Ethernet connections to the desktop. It was reaching capacity, and the data network couldn't support such desired services as streaming video and satellite-based vehicle tracking. Nortel Networks, its partners and Daytona Beach Information Services Staff installed a converged voice and data network designed to handle the job for the next 25 years. The new network is redundant and fault-tolerant and provides a seamless, cutting-edge integration of voice, video, and data with high capacity and Quality of Service (QoS) from end to end.
