MCNC Grid Computing & Networking Services is part of a non-profit organization founded by the North Carolina General Assembly as the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC) to foster economic development by partnering with universities, business and government. The challenge for the company was to provide North Carolina higher education community with enhanced support for advanced bioinformatics applications. The company selected Cisco. Cisco optical ring delivers 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity between Research Triangle Park organizations. It also supports high-performance, hardware-based IPv6 used in Internet 2 applications. Cisco routers deliver Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to more than 100 colleges and universities.
