Vorarlberger Krankenhaus-Betriebsges (VKHB) is the holding organisation for a consortium of hospitals in Vorarlberg. In order to replace traditional film- and paper-based archives for medical records in each hospital, VKHB needed a digital storage system that could deliver large volumes of data quickly, and scale up to meet future requirements. VKHB created a high-availability storage solution based on IBM TotalStorage FAStT900 Storage Server and IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller (SVC), with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) software running on IBM eServer pSeries 630. The IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller provides a central point of control for volume management, increases storage administrator productivity, and provides a common platform for advanced functions like copy services, quality of service and data protection.
