Spyware is on the rise, posing a serious threat to your company that, while less visible than those from spam and virus attacks, is invasive, destructive, and potentially costly. Your company may very well be among those that are paying the price. Corporations should establish specific Internet usage policies with rules for software downloads, along with education programs to support the policy and illustrate the extent of the spyware threat. Users often don't understand the full functionality of a program, which may be stated in the small print of a license agreement that is confusing or never gets read. Or a legitimate program may have a hidden spyware component that is not disclosed.
