Dell Inc. - is making its mark on the music world with the introduction of the Dell Digital Jukebox (Dell DJ) digital music player. Several early devices used flash memory because it consumed less power, was comparatively inexpensive, and made it possible to design a small device. Those devices, though are limited in capacity - about an hour or so - which meant consumers had to, constantly update their music. Dell selected Hitachi as its sole source provider after a competitive review of several hard drive models. There are a number of miniature drives with high capacity, but Hitachi's Travelstar drive was the only one that met or exceeded all of their requirements.
